From Competition to Compassion | 51:00 | 4K | 2026
From Competition to Compassion is a documentary / artistic film-essay that explores the Dutch artist Louwrien Wijers (b. 1941) and her “mental sculptures” along with her central thesis: “From Competition to Compassion.”
Our cinematic history of this important, yet forgotten artistic practice is told through anecdotes from the life and work of Wijers, as well as performative readings of her own theses.
From Competition to Compassion raises questions about what empathetic radicality in art can mean, and how grand visions for art and the world functions in an aging artist.
The film is funded by: Fond for lyd og bilde, Norsk kulturråd, Statens Kunstnerstipend, Billedkunstnernes vederlagsfond
Made in collaboration with Petrine Vinje and O FILMS.
