UR are three collage clocks made by Are Mokkelbost for Bjørnsletta Skole in Oslo, Norway, 2014. They are a permanent public installation commissioned by Kulturetaten, Oslo Kommune, curated by Siri Austeen and Hanne Øverland. The fundamental concept is that the hands of the clock are replaced with rotating discs. The circular discs are cut into the clock face, across each image. The discs rotate; fragmenting and assembling the image as time goes by. Consequently the composition is always changing, each state representing the current time. The discs on the first clock rotate once every minute. The discs on the second clock rotate once every hour. The discs on the third clock rotate once every 12 hours. Together the three clocks tell the current time. Film by Carsten Aniksdal. Music by Are Mokkelbost.
Just a quick shot to manifest my enthusiasm over participating in the masterclass program with Wim Wenders and interviewer Kalle Lochen at Filmens Hus last Thursday. Even shook hands with the master - such a great afternoon!
Berit Kristoffersen and I was invited over to the 29th Leeds International Film Festival to show some clips and talk a bit about our documentary Parallax as a part of the festival's Arctic Encounters program. The clips will serve as a teaser and will precede the full length documentary Dreamland by Britt Kramvig and Rachel Gomez. PL219 is produced by Rodeo Film & Arctic Encounters. Contact me for a password-protected link to the pilot.
I got inspired by the solar eclipse on the 20th of March this year to start shooting Polaroids again. For a long time I've had a special relation to this format. First and foremost I like the fact that there only exist one of each image. No negative or digital raw-file to render the possibility of reproduction - just the monumental singularity of the moment. I also like the fact that it takes time to develop. This creates a prolonged anticipation to re-experience the moment just captured and fires neurons into a synapse to create a feeling of nostalgia. A nostalgia over something that recently happened.
Third film from my minimalistic musical portrait series. I decided to start this project portraying my many friends with musical talent. The rules are simple: it has to be shot in my winter garden, there can be no cuts and they have to perform live.
This time it was finally my dear friend Tommy's turn. I've been begging him to pick up the guitar again after some years of restitution from his delicate and powerful ensemble, Happily Ever After.
Too moved to move the camera stayed in a fixed position this time - letting the music breathe within the portrait. Shot on the 1st of April 2015.
Just returned form Tromsø where my friend Berit Kristoffersen defended her ph.d. “Drilling oil into arctic minds? State security, industry consensus and local contestation” and is now a certified Dr. I made this image for the front cover and also contributed with images from our field trips inside.
